Apply to the Medical Technology Program

We are excited you’re interested in joining our Medical Technology ʻohana!
Please follow the application steps carefully based on your student status.

📘 1) Pre-Medical Technology (PMT) Route

For: Current UH Mānoa Students Still Fulfilling Prerequisites

If you are currently enrolled at UH Mānoa:

Recommended Preparation
✅ Select the “Pre-Medical Technology” pathway.

• Work with the UH Registrar’s Office to declare this pathway.
  ✅ Meet with an academic advisor.

• Email medtech@hawaii.edu to plan your courses and gain priority consideration in the MT application cycle.

When You’ve Completed All Prerequisites
Once you have finished all required courses, you will be ready to declare Medical Technology as your major.

To Apply:
Please prepare the following materials:

1. Medical Technology Application 

2. Student Checklist

3. PDF copy of your complete STAR transcript

4. Note of Interest (no more than one page):

   • Why are you interested in Medical Technology?

Submit All Documents:
Send all materials by email to medtech@hawaii.edu.
An academic advisor will review your materials and contact you about next steps.

📗 2) Second-Degree Route

For: Students Who Already Hold a Bachelor’s Degree

If you already hold a bachelor’s degree and wish to complete a second degree in Medical Technology:

Step 1 – Apply to UH Mānoa
✅ Complete the UH Mānoa undergraduate application as a second-degree student by the final deadline.

Step 2 – Submit Program Materials
After you submit your UH application, please email the following to medtech@hawaii.edu:

1. Your UH Application Number

2. Unofficial Transcripts (from all colleges or universities attended)

3. Medical Technology Application

4. Note of Interest (no more than one page):

   • Why are you interested in Medical Technology?

Optional:
You may also include any relevant work experience or certifications (e.g., phlebotomy).

📙 3) 2+2 Route (MLT to MLS)

For: Kapiʻolani Community College MLT Students

If you are currently enrolled in the KCC Medical Laboratory Technician program:

Step 1 – Auto-Enroll to UH Mānoa
✅ Use the STAR system to auto-enroll/auto-transfer to UH Mānoa before the published deadline.

• For assistance, contact the STAR Help Team or speak with your KCC academic advisor.

Step 2 – Submit Program Materials

2. Student Checklist

3. PDF of your STAR transcript
